Hedge Fund Data Sources

Top Resources

To look up an individual hedge fund in each of the resources below, search by name to load their profile. To screen for a number of hedge funds by various criteria please see instructions for each resource below.

  • Preqin – see Preqin access help
    Data covers private capital and hedge funds, including fund, fund manager, investor and deal information, as well as market-wide benchmarks. Includes US and international hedge funds. To screen for hedge funds:
    1. Go to Search For > Funds > Advanced Search > Asset Class.
    2. Select Hedge Funds and select additional criteria by drop down boxes across the top to the right and clicking on Done to filter results.
  • Capital IQ – see Capital IQ access help
    Find funds and performance data on US and international hedge funds. To screen for hedge funds:
    1. Go to Screening > Investment/Advisory Firms > Primary Fund Types Managed.
    2. Select Hedge Funds and Add Criteria.
    3. Search and add other criteria i.e., total assets or geographic location and then Add Criteria.
  • LSEG Workspace – see LSEG Workspace access help
    Find funds and performance data on US and international hedge funds. Note: Funds listed are from Lipper. To screen for hedge funds:
    1. Open Fund Screener and type Hedge Funds in search box.
    2. Select variables i.e. Asset Status > Primary Flag then select funds of interest.
    3. Click Generate Report and select all columns.

  • Bloomberg is sometimes mentioned as a data source, but due to our academic subscription, we have very limited data available.
  • Search Google to find information on a specific hedge fund, i.e. BlackRock.
