Search Tips

Reports customizing tips

  • Change time frame in financial series reports by using time period slider above results table
  • By clicking Add/Edit Display Columns link, you can choose any available category to be displayed as a column
  • For fully custom company report, select Report Builder tool at the bottom of left navigation panel of a company page

Criteria search tips

  • Enter your criteria as a key word in Search box at top. You can select the correct criteria from the smart list which is generated as you type
  • If you don't find industry of interest in the industry tree or when you are looking for unique product, search for companies using keywords in Business Description category. Connect your terms with OR Boolean connector.
  • To add several search criteria using OR Boolean connector, select OR from the drop-down in number box of your criteria, e.g. instead of 2, select OR. 

Screening tips

  • Use ready-screens and customize screens by editing and/or adding your criteria. Go to Screening tab > Idea Generation > All Idea Generation Screens.  Browse or use keyword search to find relevant screens.
  • For investment screens, use Find Buyers or Investors March Builder. The one-stop shop options gives all the flexibility in analyzing investments landscape. Go to: Screening tab > Targeting > Find Buyers or Investors

Peer analysis tip

  • Evaluate credit quality of a subject company through Credit Health Panel tool located in Peer Analysis section in left navigation panel of the company page.

  • Save your lists and screens for easy retrieval and share with other students.

Find quarterly financial ratios for Microsoft for the past 20 years

  1. Enter microsoft in search box at top.
  2. Select company from the list.
  3. In left navigation panel select Financials / Valuation > Ratios.
  4. In Period Type box, select Quarterly from drop-down list.
  5. Move the slider at top of results to the respective year.
  6. Click Go.
  7. Click Excel icon at top icon bar to download results to Excel.

Find Clean Tech Companies which Received VC Investments

  1. Screening tab: Idea Generation > Screening Lite. Select Clean Technology Companies. Add additional criteria to the screen.
  2. General Transaction Details section: Primary Features > Private Placement – Venture Click Add Criteria.
  3. Click View Results.
  4. Modify display by selecting a template from the drop-down list in Templates box or click Add/Edit Display Columns link.
  5. Click Excel icon on top icon bar to export results to Excel or select Excel format above results table and click Go.

Find firms investing in healthcare and real estate in Calif. in last 3 years

  1. Screening tab: Screening > Transactions.
  2. Investment / Advisory Firms section: Investment Firm Type > PE/VC. Click Add Criteria.
  3. Investment Criteria / PE Funds section: Industries of Interest > Healthcare. In the same Industry Classifications window, enter real estate in Search Industries box. Click Search. Select Real Estate. Click Add Criteria. NOTE: two industries are added with OR Boolean connector.
  4. Investment Criteria / PE Funds section: Geographies of Interest > drill down to California. Click Add Criteria.
  5. General Transaction Details section: Dates > Last 3 years. Click Add Criteria.
  6. Click View Results.
  7. Modify display by selecting a template from the drop-down list in Templates box or click Add/Edit Display Columns link.
  8. Click Excel icon on top icon bar to export results to Excel or select Excel format above results table and click Go.

Compare financials for a set of companies

  1. Screening tab: Comparable Analysis > Create – Companies.
  2. Enter name and Save new Comp Set.
  3. Add tickers or select Search to find companies by name. Click Go after each addition or selection.
  4. Optionally, select a subject company from your set and/or set benchmark index. Make selections from the drop-down lists in two respective fields at bottom right.
  5. Click Add to Comps.
  6. To modify results display use any or the combination of the following options: click Add/Edit Display Columns link or select a different template in Templates box above, or change the date in Data as of: box or click Display Options link.
  7. Click Excel icon on top icon bar to download results Excel.

Find US companies which changed CEO within the past 12 months.

  1. Screening tab: Screening > Key Developments.
  2. Key Developments section: Type > Executive Changes – CEO
  3. In Time Frame box on right, select Last 12 Months from drop-down list. Click Add criteria
  4. In Company Details section: Geographic Locations > United States and Canada > United States of Anerica. Click Add Criteria.
  5. Click View Results.
  6. Modify display by selecting a template from the drop-down list in Templates box or click Customize display Column tab. To add columns, use search box for additional criteria or click Browse All Display Columns link at top. Once you find criteria, select it as (Display Only). Click Add to Screen. Then click Update Results.
  7. Click Excel icon on top icon bar to export results to Excel or select Excel or Word format above results table and click Go..
