To get persistent links, is easiest to use the Economist articles in ProQuest rather than Economist.com.
Using ProQuest
- Go to The Economist saved search in ProQuest (this searches articles in the print edition and online exclusives)
- Add your search terms to the search bar. Tips:
- Use quotation marks to search a phrase
- Sometimes titles change, so also use keywords and use the advanced search options to narrow the date range
- If you can find the first sentence of the article online, search for that in quotation marks.
- Once you've found the article, on the left, click Full text - PDF to see the PDF version of the article, which will include all images and graphics.
- To get the URL, in the upper right click Cite. If the URL doesn't already include the proxy-prefix, add it so the URL looks like this
https://stanford.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://www.proquest.com/magazines/back-with-bang/docview/2761511760/se-2
Using Economist.com
If you want to direct students to Economist.com articles, you can either:
- Explain to students they can access the Economist through the library by using this link. Then tell them to search for the title of the article on the site. Or,
- Give them a direct URL to the article that includes the proxy in it (it should include something that looks like "stanford.idm.oclc.org"), otherwise it will not connect students to our subscription.
- Typically, if you're doing this from off of Stanford's network (e.g. from home), the proxy will be added by default as long as you're using our subscription.
- But if you're on-campus, you can manually modify the URL to look like this:
https://www-economist-com.stanford.idm.oclc.org/business/2021/03/02/a-billion-plus-covid-19-shots-in-2021-can-serum-institute-do-it.
